A Decade of Design: Julia Kobozeva’s Vision with Castro Lighting

Exploring Luxury Lighting, Portuguese Craftsmanship, and Timeless Interior Design

As part of Castro Lighting’s ongoing celebration of global design talent, we spoke with Julia Kobozeva, interior designer and head of the DECORACIA showroom in Moscow.

With more than ten years of collaboration with Castro, Julia has brought a wide range of luxury lighting solutions to life—ranging from sculptural brass chandeliers to elegant custom lighting pieces for complex, large-scale interiors.

In this interview, Julia shares her insight into lighting design, and how decorative lighting continues to play a defining role in creating elevated, emotionally rich spaces.

Lighting with Character: Authentic, Modern, Elegant

When asked to describe Castro in three words, Julia chose: authentic, modern, elegant. These words, in her view, capture the brand’s identity and its ability to enhance a space with both style and presence.

Her preferred collections—Streamline, Stala, and Flow—are valued for their versatility and sophistication. “These collections are elegant and easy to integrate into any interior to create a refined atmosphere,” she explains.

The Rainforest Suspension: Where Nature Inspires Design

Julia’s favorite Castro signature piece is the Rainforest Suspension, a standout in the brand’s luxury chandelier collection. “It masterfully combines gold-plated brass with clear crystal glass, creating a delicate and enchanting design,” she says.

For Julia, this piece reflects Castro’s unique approach to lighting design: artful, expressive, and rooted in natural elegance.

Lighting as Art: The Value of Portuguese Craftsmanship

“What I appreciate most is the attention to detail and exceptional quality of the materials,” Julia notes. Each Castro Lighting piece is handcrafted in Portugal, with brasswork and finishing processes that emphasize individuality and precision.

Whether placed in a modern penthouse or a richly layered Art Deco space, these luxury light fixtures act as both a focal point and a design tool. “For me, it’s not just lighting—it’s a piece of art,” she says. The brand’s flexibility and custom lighting options make it easy to tailor designs to suit any interior concept.

10+ Years of Creative Collaboration

Julia’s long-term relationship with Castro has evolved through shared values: innovation, quality, and reliability. “The brand is always open to discussing ideas and fully committed to creating unique, high-quality pieces,” she shares.

From ready-to-order designs to bespoke chandeliers, Julia highlights Castro’s responsiveness and clear communication as key to executing complex projects smoothly—especially those involving multiple custom brass lighting fixtures.

Moscow Project: Bespoke Lighting on a Grand Scale

Currently in its final phase, one of Julia’s most ambitious projects features a luxury interior in Moscow with an 8.5-meter custom chandelier and lighting solutions for multiple zones. Working closely with the Castro design team, each piece was tailored to meet the client’s aesthetic and spatial needs.

“A lot of work has been done, and the final result should be wonderful,” Julia says. The collaboration resulted in custom-made brass lighting that complements the project’s scale and architectural details, reinforcing the emotional atmosphere she aims to create.

Designing for Well-Being

For Julia, the role of decorative lighting goes beyond function. It’s about crafting experiences. “I want my projects to bring a sense of elegance, luxury, and joy of life,” she reflects. She believes lighting should be both visually impactful and emotionally uplifting—especially in the spaces where people spend their everyday lives.

Organic Design and the Future of Lighting

Looking ahead, Julia sees growing demand for organic forms, natural materials, and emotionally resonant environments. “People crave a closer connection to nature,” she says.

This makes sculptural lighting, brass textures, and fluid lines more relevant than ever in luxury interiors.
